Panel title

Local Development, Enterprises' Agency and National Policies in Southwest China and its Adjacent Countries

Panel abstract

Since Reagan-Thatcher neoliberal era, stimulating economic development through fostering entrepreneurship has been a widely adopted but highly controversial policy in many countries, especially western developed countries. However, little scholarly attention has been given to China’s southwest borderlands and the adjacent mainland Southeast Asian areas, in which regional economies has undergone a sustained growth, partly attributed to the mushrooming of cross-border and migrant entrepreneurship, since the dawn of the 21st century, in particular after the kickoff of China’s Belt and Road Initiatives and Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank. The goal of this panel is to present the latest research on various understandings of entrepreneurship and the roles of entrepreneurs and local governments for regional development processes in this developing and out-off-balance area.
